We recently had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at next season from our buyers after their whirlwind trip to Miami. Fashion shows, big events and jet setting to the Miami Swim Show – all in a day’s work for our buying team that brings the best designs in swimwear to Swimco. Read on for an exclusive look at the trends and must-haves that our stylish team have discovered for the upcoming cruise season.
What events did you have the chance to attend in Miami?
We attended the Seafolly cocktail party at the luxurious SLS hotel. This beachfront venue was the perfect place for the Australian brand’s soiree, and provided an art deco backdrop to the evening. There were also several fashion shows to see, including L*Space and Maaji runway shows. Maaji had an equestrian theme, titled ‘Royal Riders’, which we loved. It was super eccentric (true to the brand) and very well done. Of course the main ‘event’ we travelled for was the Miami Swim Show. It is a gigantic trade show featuring hundreds of swimwear brands, and we had appointments to see about 70 brands, all buyers combined, while we were there.
Wow, so you saw a lot of new designs! Any key colours or prints you’re seeing for next season?
Geometric prints were still everywhere, as well as black with white. There were tribal and Navajo prints included as well, perfect for more bohemian looks. Florals are always a big part of the designs and this season they are being mixed with geometrics for a modern twist. Colour blocking and ombres were something exciting we saw as well, lots of vibrant colours. Richer tones were present too, like denim blues, plums and animal inspired prints for a really luxurious look.
What about trends?
Cut outs are huge, and anything with multiple strap details. It’s a really sexy look! Another sultry trend is retro inspired silhouettes. High waist bottoms, bralette tops, bustiers, there’s something for every woman to feel confident in. Flattering trends are something we love to see. Ruffles are back in a big way too, and these are also very figure flattering, whether it’s a tummy minimizing double tier tankini (an update on last season’s triple tiers) or a bust enhancing flutter top.
We are also getting excited about the new interest in active swimwear or looks inspired by sportier styles. These designs cater to the active swimmer and are more multipurpose so you look great during activities and when you are just lounging by the pool. Oakley does a great job of this, and even brands that are typically not ‘athletic’ are bringing in items like these. Body Glove Breathe is a great example of these new lines.
Any other exciting news?
This coming season we are having new brands introduced to our stores including Red Carter. Red Carter is a brand from Miami that has a celebrity following with stylish fans like Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian. The swimsuits are fashion-forward and we’re so happy to be bringing them to our customers. We’re also re-launching Trina Turk swimwear, a customer favourite.
With bold prints, rich colour and some seriously covetable trends, it sounds like there’s something for everybody (and every body!) at Swimco this cruise season!
