I recently enjoyed a memorable evening, honored to be one of 20 “Leaders of Tomorrow”, as chosen by Business in Calgary Magazine. The function was held at the beautiful Metropolitan Centre with 250 people in attendance including my son Brett and Katrina (two of our three “Marketeers”), Kitty (Buyer Extraordinaire), and a surprise guest, Sharon Norris, friend and Seafolly distributor. Thank you Sharon, for taking time out of your very busy schedule to fly in for the dinner as a show of support for us.
The organizers of the event did a wonderful job. Everything ran smoothly, including a slick awards ceremony with a brief description of each person and their business, followed by a pre-recorded video of each of the recipients. No lengthy, uncomfortable speeches, just interesting tidbits about some intriguing people.
I am always amazed by the many interesting people and businesses at events such as this. As Brett and I drove home that night, he too commented on Calgary’s extraordinary entrepreneurial and community spirit. That night’s winners included Paul Rogalski, Owner and Chef of Rouge Restaurant (recently named 60th best restaurant in the world), Ryan Gill, CEO of Suitcase Interactive who developed his own Project Smile charity, and John Fitzsimmons, Owner of Fitz Flooring who set up his first showroom in a friend’s barn 20 years ago.
I feel lucky to live in this amazing city, where innovative ideas abound and businesses reach out to help those in need. Thanks to Business in Calgary Magazine for recognizing these important contributions!
