Each year Swimco partners with Lethbridge College and awards a $500 scholarship to the Design student who we feel has created the best swimwear design. This year’s recipient is Amanda Harnos (see her winning design above). Swimco’s Buying Team selects the entry that we think would compete best in the swimwear marketplace. These are high standards, as we see thousands of suits from countless lines from around the world! Amanda’s design was fresh, on-trend, and we think it would appeal to her target customer. Well done Amanda!
Speaking of designers, it was great to hear from Seafolly’s Genelle Walkom in our last blog. She is, in my opinion, one of the world’s best swimwear designers. Design can make or break a line, especially with swimwear. If the styles don’t meet customer needs for both fit and fashion, the line will be doomed. This is something I’ve seen happen many times with even highly-reputable swimwear brands. At Swimco, we salute and hold in reverence designers like Genelle, who help so many women feel confident in their swimwear. And when a woman feels confident, she can let go and have some of the best times of her life… like on vacation!
Our Buying Team is off to New York next week to look at new collections from some of the world’s top swimwear brands. We’re excited to see what the designers have in store for 2012. I will, of course, report back to you with some tantalizing highlights of upcoming trends. In the meantime, if you have any favorite brands that look enticing, be sure to let me know. I’ll add them to our shopping list!
‘Til next time,
