Fit Series – Fitting a Smaller Bust

The key to finding swimwear that looks good on your body type is confidence! We talked about this in my last post, but I also know that everyone has areas that they might love a little less about their bodies. I decided to take this opportunity to discuss several fit concerns we hear from our customers and hopefully there will be a solution or tip you can take with you. This series of posts will cover fitting a larger or smaller bust, taming the tummy, and more! Feel free to comment with a suggestion or question of your own for a future fit series post.

These are certainly not meant to be dogmatic fashion ‘rules’. Take these suggestions with a grain of sea salt and remember – the most important thing is to wear what you feel good in!

Fitting a Smaller Bust
If you are petite up top, you can rock some of the most daring swimsuits, like plunging V-necklines or sexy open back one pieces, which could look risqué on other body types. One of this season’s big trends is the high neckline – if you’re small chested get ready to embrace the shape you have in these flattering tops.

Row-1

If subtle enhancement is what you’re looking for, bandeau styles help broaden your upper half, and demi cups make the most of the cleavage you have. Bustier or lingerie inspired pieces also look amazing and help give your upper half some va-va-voom.

Row-2

Just as in clothing, look for prints, texture, bold colours, and volume to help enhance certain parts of the body. Use this strategically, and don’t be afraid to mix and match patterned tops with solid bottoms, or find a one piece that has colour and detail on the upper half. Look for twists and ruching on the bustline, or a flounce top. The flowy fabric billows out from the chest for a flirty look.

Row-3

For more serious lift, tops with soft cups can add some curve to your bustline. Take it to the next level with push up styles that will add that lift, plus a dose of sultry appeal. You can also consider adding inserts if your favourite swimsuit doesn’t have enough ‘oomph’ for you. Our Breast Friends come in a range of push up options so you can get what is just right for you!

Is a triangle or a scoop neck (kinda shaped like a sports bra) better for a very small chest?

    • Swimco

Great question Cindy! The answer can vary depending on what you are doing in your swimsuit and want you want to achieve. A scoop neck shaped like a sports bra will be very comfortable and supportive and perfect for things like active water sports, yoga on the beach, chasing little kids around a pool, learning to paddleboard, etc. A triangle top though, will be better at creating more “oomph” up top, especially if you choose one that has ruffles, bright colours, push-up cups, or a pattern. Remember, if you want some advice from a Fit Expert about any of the specific tops, you can visit a Swimco store or Live Chat with a Fit Expert anytime. Thank you for the comment!
