The Sights of Summer

What a week… beaches, sunshine and a little celebrity by the name of Oprah Winfrey! The Queen of Television is down in Sydney filming her talk show, and the city has welcomed her with open arms. “Oprah” was written in the sky by acrobatic planes, a giant “O” has been placed on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and for the duration of her stay the Sydney Opera House has been re-named the “Oprah House”. It’s unbelievable to say the least.

The past week gave me the chance to explore my surrounding area and I did so in a pair of Hurley Phantom 60 Geo boardshorts; a knee length, ultra stretch, quick dry short that can act as both a boardshort and walk short.  This specific model is slightly different than most shorts out there and it can be noticed in the inseam (see photo). Instead of one inseam running along the inner thighs, there are two inseams separated by a 3 inch piece of fabric. This helps protect against chaffing where “the sun don’t shine” and provides for a comfier walk, swim or surf.  The short also has a roomy pocket on the right leg with a secure elastic inside to attach keys, and the fly is Velcro-free to keep chaffing at bay.

Along my walk I discovered a great beach called Tamarama (see photo), as well as a beautiful seaside pool at the south end of Bondi Beach, known as “Icebergs” (see photo). This is where I had my Oprah sighting! She was having lunch with some local lifeguards from the show, “Bondi Rescue”, and I just happened to be there as she was leaving in her police escorted entourage.

There is so much action in and around the Bondi area; I highly encourage anyone to come down and see not only what Sydney has to offer, but the rest of Australia as well. Before you do however, be sure to swing by Swimco and talk to a Fit Expert, so you can look your best on the beach.
